God Heals Broken Hearts

I have a wonderful dentist. How does that have anything to do with today’s post?

My dentist is a Christian and we always have great conversations – not religious by any means – but thoughtful and candid. And I’m always amazed how he can understand what I’m saying, with my mouth full of cotton.

Told you he was good!

Today’s conversation (in mixed company) quickly went to all of the devastating events happening in the world and why are there are so many people, so filled with hate, that they absolutely want to wipe out the existence of those not like them?

With my mouth full of cotton, I pointed at my heart and mumbled, “it starts here”.

A heart full of hatred often times can be a heart full of unresolved trauma. You see, we can choose to be bitter about situation that we had no control over and/or caused us great distress and grief, or we can choose to be better. We can choose to rise above it.

And then there’s a type of maybe, generational curses. Generations upon generations, who choose to believe in hatred and it never comes into the light to be shown for what it is.

As a species, our hearts are broken.

But that’s why Jesus came.

Until (unless) everyone is truly able to recognize this and choose Jesus – not reject Him – asking Him to come in and heal their broken hearts, I’m afraid we won’t see an end to hatred.

One person at a time, like the “man in the mirror” (yes, MJ songs were on the satellite station in the dentist office too), we can change the world by looking inside our own “man” and realizing we all need Jesus.

Many use this scripture for times of deep loss and sorrow; I know I do. But if we can take it a step deeper and realize God wants to change all of our hearts from that like cold, hard stone to warm & moldable clay – then we will be one step closer to bringing His kingdom, come.

He can heal us if we ask – and let Him.
