Every day, there are opportunities presented, in which we get choose between God’s ways and the world’s.
In His word, God promises (in 1 Corinthians 10:13); “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.“
In the Greek, all three times of that verse, the same word, tempted or temptation, can also mean “tested” or “testing”.
Just for a moment, replace those words. Does it change the way you think about this verse? About God?
What about how we actually grow through times of temptation, testing?
Because the fact is, we either choose God’s way, or the world’s and depending on which, we either grow deeper in Him, more like Jesus, or – we don’t. But, because God is faithful to complete the work He’s begun in us – we get to see the “opportunity for growth” again.
May we seek God first – in scripture, in quiet moments, listen, and choose wisely. We don’t face anything on our own abiding in Christ – we have the Holy Spirit especially for times like these. He is our Helper.
