“Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives, and he who keeps on seeking finds, and to him who keeps on knocking, it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will [instead] give him a stone?” Matthew 7:7-9 AMP
How this passage speaks to me…
Our Heavenly Father wants us to ask Him anything. Wisdom, healing, direction – anything – even the “tangible”, but I also defer you back to when Jesus told us not to worry about what we will wear, eat or where we will live because our Father knows we need these things and He is more than able to provide just as He does for the birds in the air (and reminds us we are even much more valuable). He even referred to King Solomon and his splendor, and how God clothes the flowers in the fields with His glorious splendor even more so (paraphrasing but see link to this passage in Matthew below).
Jesus further told us to not store up treasure on earth (material possessions), but rather those in Heaven.
See Matthew 6:25-34.
So, it’s not all about asking for the “stuff” (possessions, positions etc…). This was something I needed to learn when I came to believe. It’s about the posture of our hearts – but actually firstly, it’s ALL about our incredibly good, good Father who loves us immensely and immeasurably; more than we can ever understand in this life.
We can be sure God hears our prayers, and gives His children (like we would do the same as best we can as humans) what is in our best interest (see my previous post on the desires of our hearts) and in accordance with His good, good plan.
He already knows what we need, but we deepen our relationship (remember, the daily goal as believers to learn to lean in, on & love God, grow deeper in Him and share Him with others) when we ask, seek, knock.
He knows us better than we know ourselves – and has already been pursuing us ♥️.
If our hearts line up with God’s, (seek ye first the kingdom of God) we will be confident in His answers – whether it’s “yes”, “no”, (or not yet) or “wait”. This is where I have needed to grow in my younger years.
Early on, I had said that I was a believer, I knew Jesus was God’s only begotten Son, but needed to know HIM intimately. There were times I’d treated God more like a genie in a bottle before I realized the ultimate goal is to know HIM personally. And that HE is satisfying enough! Jesus is all I truly need.
More on how I came to believe another time (post).
If you desire to be close to the Lord, He is only a breath away. Ask, seek, knock. Spend time with Him.
What do you want to ask Him for today? Would it be for things? Would it be for Him to reveal Himself in a way that refreshes your very soul? I have found that the latter takes care of the former.
Keep asking, seeking, knocking on that door; He is listening and most assuredly, faithful 💛.
