Having spent some significant time as a volunteer recovery ministry leader, I can tell you firsthand, it can be a lonely journey.
It certainly gave me a new perspective and appreciation for my leaders.
Yes, we ALWAYS have our best friend, Jesus to walk with us, the Holy Spirit to lead, comfort and guide us, our Heavenly Father to crawl up in His lap to rest.
But people wise – it can be a lonely experience at times. Between decisions that need to be made – that some may not agree with or understand, to walking out the passing of those who’ve gone too soon from our perspective.
Leaders, pastors, teachers – whatever term or title we apply, it’s all under the same umbrella; servant leader.
I was extremely blessed to serve with some absolutely incredible servant-hearted leaders themselves that were so encouraging, lifting me and my husband up in prayer, and walking with us through the many ups and downs of living life in a volunteer ministry position at my church.
I was blessed to be called to that service for a specific season and it taught me a lot.
It helped me grow in the Lord in ways I never would have imagined – and it helped me therefore, to grow up.
Love on your leaders – I promise you it helps them in very tangible ways. Along with praying for them & their families, ministry – it doesn’t take a lot.
Some ideas: an appreciation text, phone call, voice mail, visit, hug, coffee or gas or grocery card, lunch, make a meal, maybe serve once or twice with them (cook, lead worship, help set up/clean up) – such a small investment on our part but one that can give a leader who may need some serious encouragement that gentle, uplifting & loving expression they need to keep pressing on. They do NOT expect it – and are so appreciative just that you thought to brighten their day!
So, how might you take this step to love on your church family leaders today?
